We would like to congratulate Dr. Jiří Hanáček, Ph.D., head of the My Clinic obstetrics and gynaecology department and an excellent physician, colleague, traveller, and sportsman, on the occasion of this successful defence of his habilitation thesis at the 3rd Faculty of Medicine at Charles University and being named associate professor for obstetrics and gynaecology by the rector of Charles University.
Why the field of obstetrics and gynaecology?
Jiří chose his field after his fifth year of medicine studies at Charles University, when on a work term during the summer holidays he first saw a spontaneous birth, and was hooked. "The emotions accompanying the birth of a new life enthralled me, and made me choose this field," he says.
During his initial years of practice, Dr. Hanáček focused on obstetrics and ultrasound; as time passed he participated in operations with increasing frequency, and became interested in endoscopic surgery. He now mostly performs surgery dealing with infertility and pain relief, hence the treatment of endometriosis, myomas, and pathologies of the womb and ovaries.
For several years now he has been the science secretary of the endoscopic section of the Czech Gynecological and Obstetrical Society and one of the heads of the section for treatment of endometriosis.
How does he like to spend his free time?
Mainly doing sports - in the summer this means biking, running, and swimming. In the winter his favourite activities are cross-country and Alpine skiing. But he also considers the Aristotelian effort to achieve a balance between body and mind to be key. He tries to read a lot, attend the theatre, and in general paying attention to culture.
And what does he like about My clinic?
At My Clinic, where he is the head of the obstetrics and gynaecology clinic, he likes the concept of the clinic itself and the people working there. "Of course, the clinic and the entire building are newly and tastefully furnished. For those of use who have spent many years working in a classical university hospital, this is a change. But change is life, and one needs to expand one's horizons." adds associate professor Hanáček.
