Rheumatology at MY CLINIC

Rheumatology is a key field of internal medicine. It focuses on connective tissue diseases (muscle, joint, bone structures) or, in other words, inflammatory systemic diseases (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis), degenerative joint diseases (arthrosis) and metabolic bone diseases (osteoporosis).

We often help patients to solve complex and unusual difficulties which may seem unrelated. In this respect, rheumatology is unique. That is why doctors of various specializations turn to us to help them solve their questions. The advantage of MY CLINIC is not only the close co-operation between these specializations but also the availability of diagnostic clinics and possible treatment methods under one roof.

Dear client, if you are a patient with musculoskeletal problems or you have been recommended to have a rheumatological examination, please contact us with confidence.

What and how does rheumatology treat?

Rheumatology plays a crucial role, especially in the field of diagnosis and treatment of non-surgical diseases of the musculoskeletal system. The range of diseases is very wide and they are often complex diseases that differ from each other in their origin, manifestations and treatment.

The most common inflammatory rheumatic disease is rheumatoid arthritis. It is an autoimmune disease. Early determination of the correct diagnosis is an essential prerequisite for successful treatment. Typical manifestations of musculoskeletal disorders are pain, decreased mobility and joint stiffness.

The rheumatologist performs a number of examinations to evaluate the overall condition of the locomotor system. After diagnosis, rheumatological care focuses on monitoring the course of the disease and the success of its treatment.

According to the results of the examination, the doctor suggests the most suitable treatment procedure. It can be lifestyle modification, physiotherapy, pharmacological treatment, or even a surgical solution. Some rheumatic diseases cannot be completely cured. However, timely and sufficiently vigorous treatment can stop the course of the disease, or at least significantly slow it down.

Rheumatology has experienced a dramatic development in recent years, especially in terms of the success of the use of modern pharmacological (therapeutic) approaches, including biological drugs, especially in the treatment of inflammatory autoimmune diseases. This gives patients a high chance of improving their quality of life.

How is the examination performed?

The basis of the examination is the compilation of the patient's medical history which can significantly contribute to the formulation of a rapid and accurate diagnosis. The doctor usually examines the nature of the patient's job and his/her sports activities, the family history is also important to find out whether someone in the family has already suffered from similar problems.

During the examination, the rheumatologist mainly uses his senses. The extent of the disability is assessed by the doctor by inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation. The nature of any deviations is determined by performing special maneuvers. The choice of individual procedures and their sequence depends on the specific disability and the current condition of the patient.

Physical examinations are often supplemented by advanced diagnostic methods, such as, for example, immunological analysis of blood samples. X-rays are also very important , ultrasound methods are used to show soft tissues.

Team

Our team is here for you. The department is headed by an experienced specialist Karel Bulíř, MD, who has been involved in rheumatology for 25 years. He is a board-certified doctor in the fields of internal medicine, general medicine and rheumatology.

A great advantage is the close connection of the rheumatology department with other specializations at MY CLINIC, especially with orthopedics or physiotherapy during the treatment itself or sonography in the case of the diagnostic part of the examination. We will provide you with all care under one roof.
