Dry needling treatment

Dry needling is a highly effective method for releasing so-called trigger points, which are a common source of chronic pain during both movement and rest. Dry needling is used especially in cases where relief is not achieved through exercise or soft techniques. Treatment with dry needling is usually applied in a balanced combination with other complementary and subsequent techniques, including the adjustment of movement patterns.

Dry needling treatment is performed with a very thin needle (acupuncture needles) at various depths of subcutaneous tissue and muscle (from 0.5 cm to several centimeters). After the needle therapy, the treated trigger point area may be temporarily sensitive.

The application of needles cannot be performed in clients who have, for example, a blood clotting disorder, reduced sensitivity in the application area, allergies to steel, etc.

After the procedure, we recommend wearing compression stockings around the clock for the first four days, and during the day for ten days thereafter. The patient’s day-to-day routine is not affected by any major restrictions – on the contrary, it is advisable to follow a reasonable regime of physical activity (i.e., walking). For the first 14 days or so after the intervention, we recommend refraining from strenuous sports; likewise, prolonged standing in one position is to be avoided. The sclerotized spider veins will benefit from the application of an ointment that accelerates the absorption process, and from preventing direct exposure to sunlight (which may trigger pigmentation spots).
